Not Sure Where to Start?
If you are concerned about a student’s learning or academic experience but aren’t sure what kind of support would be most helpful, the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity (KCLC) is available for consultation.
Consultations provide an opportunity to discuss your concerns with a KCLC professional, learn more about available resources, and identify possible next steps.
Consultations are available to USC students, faculty, staff, and parents or family members.
When Might a Consultation Be Helpful?
You may want to reach out if:
- A student is struggling academically, and you are unsure what support to recommend
- You have concerns about a student’s attention, organization, time management, or learning
- A student is putting in significant effort but continues to have difficulty keeping up academically
- You are wondering whether academic coaching, psychoeducational assessment, or another resource may be appropriate
- You would like guidance on how to support a student who learns differently
- You aren’t sure whether KCLC is the right resource and would like help identifying next steps
You do not need to know exactly what service you are looking for before contacting us. That is one of the reasons consultation is available.
What Happens During a Consultation?
Depending on the student’s needs, recommendations might include KCLC services such as academic coaching or psychoeducational assessment, another USC resource, or strategies that can be implemented independently.
A consultation does not require a student to have a diagnosis or documented learning difference.
Consultations for Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff are welcome to consult with KCLC when they have questions about supporting a student’s learning or academic success.
We can help you think through concerns, identify appropriate resources, and explore strategies for supporting students with different learning needs.
